Pan Am Fleet Update

Continuing a steady growth course matching capacity to meet the increasing demand, Pan Am’s fleet now has grown to seven 727- 200 aircraft. When maintenance modifications have been made at the carrier’s new facility at Pease, all aircraft will be standard and will be configured to carry 173 passengers.

Three of the aircraft are actively flying now while two more are at Pease, completing “C” checks, and they are expected to be in revenue service by the end of March. In addition, one aircraft is completing federal noise compliance modifications at Pease and the seventh aircraft is now in the paint shop and should be flying by the end of February.

“We have active interest in our charter capability from numerous parties”, said Bob Mencel, Pan Am’s Vice President of Operations. “Our task is to maximize revenue potential and support the continued enhancement of the fleet by accepting the flying which brings in the most revenue and fits best with our commitment to maintain our aircraft to the highest standards,” he added.

“New interiors have been selected and we have acquired seven ship sets of a very attractive interior to provide a professional, consistent look throughout the fleet. Installation by our people at Pease should be completed by the end of the Spring,” he noted.

Mr. Mencel also said that Pan Am is conducting a feasibility study of adding two DC-10's to the fleet in order to service the long-haul international flying opportunities which frequently have come to the carrier.
