The Search for New Business

In this era of intense competition within the transportation industry, there is no bit of potential business which should be overlooked. Guilford Rail people intend to be alert to any possible shipment which can move by rail. Part of this effort is the continual evaluation of existing facilities and service centers for modification which would attract new customers.

With this in mind, the Marketing and Sales staff determined that a transload ramp at Dover, New Hampshire might produce some carload freight movements which were previously all truck. Such a ramp has now been constructed at the easterly end of the Dover yard. Maine Coast Lumber Company of York, Maine has received its first carload of lumber and anticipates that a volume of 50 or more cars annually will be handled. There is a printing company in the area which purchases roll paper and another company which now receives brick by truck. Yet another business, which brings in clay in bags, has requested freight rates over the ramp.

It is this kind of potential which is being sought out and evaluated, for growth of the business is altogether important. The search will continue, here and elsewhere.
