Pan Am Fuel Farm Operation Just one month after the opening of its Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facility, Pan Am Services announced the completion of the fuel farm project commissioned earlier this year. Located adjacent to the 220,000 square foot hangar/headquarters of its airline affiliate, Pan Am Airways Corporation, the six tank farm has the capacity to maintain a supply of 100,000 gallons of jet fuel, along with ample quantities of avgas (aviation grade gasoline for smaller planes), diesel and unleaded gasoline for work equipment. The project was completed under the supervision of Guilford Rail engineer Tim Cobb, who oversaw the design, permitting, ordering, installation and activation of the facility. Pan Am Services General Manager Gordon Long observed that the establishment of this state-of-the-art fueling facility will enable Pan Am Services to obtain the best products from suppliers and to provide those products to our corporate, private and military aviation customers at prices which are very competitive with other FBOs throughout New England. Pan Am President Dave Fink agreed with Longs assessment and noted that having the fuel farm located next to the airlines maintenance hangar will enable Pan Am to exercise greater control over its own fuel costs as it works to expand its business and revitalize the historic Pan Am name. ![]() ![]() Article by John Nadolny |
