Connection with Canada In this installment of WEB TRACKS, we were refer to the official home page of Canadian National Railway, Located at http://www.cn.ca/. Their page provides information not only in English but French as well. The page is broken into the following sections: About CN, Journalist Newsroom, Investor Line, Customer Club. There is also a special link referring to CN's proposal to build real competition for freight traffic in the northeastern U.S. after the breakup of Conrail. By going through this link you can find and read a collection of Position Papers outlining CNs proposal for winning back traffic from the trucking industry as the North American rail industry restructures. If those are too lengthy, click through CNs Press Releases for the past year. In this category you would find the announcement concerning a new intermodal service dubbed the "New England Clipper Service." The New England Clipper Service will provide customers with seamless intermodal service between Halifax, Boston, and the New England market. The service will be operated under an agreement with New Brunswick Southern Railway and Guilford Rail System. Guilford Rails new intermodal facility in Ayer is located 40 miles outside of Boston and provides convenient access to important New England markets. The New England Clipper Service will link the ocean port of Halifax with major industrial areas. Dedicated unit trains will depart Halifax and Ayer, providing early second-morning availability at destination. If market demand dictates, The frequency of the new intermodal service may be expanded. To see the big picture click on the Maps link. As the North American rail industry redraws its map, opportunity exists to devise a competitive east-west and north-south railroad network.
